DEMOCRACY

DICTATORSHIP

DYNASTY

IDI AMIN

(1924/25 - August 16, 2003)

Idi Amin was the military officer and president of Uganda

from 1971 through 1979. During Amin's presidency, he was a

ruthless dictator to the people of Uganda. Before Amin was

a ruthless dictator he was a soldier who helped Uganda

declared independence from the United Kingdom.

However, Amin wanted to seek power for himself so he

made a coup against the Ugandan government. By 1971,

Amin would rank himself as general, then president, and

followed by life president. Amin's life as president

was considered to be an extreme nationalism and famously

known as the "Butcher of Uganda" due to the killing of

300,000 innocent people in Uganda.
