Barack Obama was the former 44th president of the
United States. Obama began his political career as a
senator in Illinois as a member of the Democratic Party.
In the mid-2000s, Obama would run as a Democrat
candidate in the 2008 election. Obama would secure
the nomination for the Democratic Party and would
end up winning the 2008 presidential election,
defeating John McCain. Obama would make history as
he was the first African-American to serve as U.S.
President. In 2012, Obama secured his win as president
of the United States, defeating Republican candidate
Mitt Romney. Barack Obama would serve two terms
during his time as U.S. President.
